In the Small Town of Tournament...
We were all hoping that the turnout for this RCQ would be better than the previous week, due to the fact that it wasn't competing with another event on the same day. But maybe this store just wasn't fated to run RCQs. We barely managed to get 8 players again, with one of the players joining just to help the event launch, then dropping immediately after the draft. Once again we ran three rounds of single elimination, this time though, the store changed how much it charged each player, so they weren't charging them the price of a sealed + draft event, but instead just charging them the price of a draft.
Suspicion Sticks Through the Mask
AP cast J. Jonah Jameson and suspected their City Pigeon. NAP cast Spider-Man No More on it, is the city Pigeon still suspected? Will it still have menace? Being suspected is a designation, not an ability, so that won't be removed by the aura. (CR 701.60b) However it will lose menace, and will be able to block. Those are abilities that were granted when it became suspected and are applied in layer 6. They have an earlier timestamp than Spider-Man No More. (CR 613.1f)
Partially Modified
AP enchants NAP's City Pigeon with Spider-Man No More, if it dies, will NAP put a +1/+1 counter on their Costume Closet? No. "Modified Creatures" either have a counter, are equipped or are enchanted with an aura that their controller controls. (CR 700.9)
...In Conclusion
Overall it was a little depressing to have such a small turnout, but I did my best to make sure the players had fun, and they seemed to have a reasonably good time. I certainly feel more like a "judge" when the events are larger, but there is something charming about events of this size, and it does allow me to more personally connect with each player, and more closely watch games of Magic.
